MILLING AS THE WATER FLOWS AND THE WIND BLOWS
Visit an exceptional site with both a watermill (1825) and windmill (1836) that have been admirably restored. The miller still grinds grain like in the old days. You can watch how wheat and buckwheat are milled into flour at the watermill. You will also better understand how the two architectural marvels work and how they were vital to the survival of islanders. In addition to enjoying an exhibit in the miller’s house adjacent to the watermill, there are two other permanent displays in the visitors’ building. At the souvenir shop, it is possible to purchase flour that has been freshly milled on real grindstones.
Take advantage of your visit to enjoy a family picnic.
